ECO-TEACH PEDAGOGY & RESOURCES (ETPR)
Teacher training and empowerment
Uganda’s education system faces deep teacher gaps weak pre-service training, limited in-service support, and little exposure to climate or inclusive pedagogy. According to UNICEF and the Economic Policy Research Centre, over 25% of Primary 3 pupils cannot read and 10.8% struggle with basic numeracy, reflecting poor preparation and outdated methods. Rural and refugee‑hosting districts are hardest hit, with teachers lacking resources, mentorship, and modern approaches. Humanity Horizons’ Eco‑Teach Pedagogy & Resources (ETPR) under ERPDP addresses these weaknesses through the TEACH framework (Technical, Effective, Active, Character, Holistic).
It equips educators with climate literacy, trauma-informed methods, and inclusive teaching, delivered via workshops, digital modules, and peer-led Teacher Learning Circles. Locally adapted toolkits and participatory training ensure relevance, while pilots show higher teacher confidence, student engagement, and girls’ retention. ETPR transforms teachers into frontline leaders of resilience and innovation, closing systemic gaps and preparing learners for a climate-challenged future.
